Hello everyone!

Holly here…mom is finally letting me on the computer to start my blog.  We found this group because the doctors say I have something stupid called osteosarcoma.  I was diagnosed on April 27 and officially became a tripawd on May 2nd.  It was very fast for my pawrents – a few weeks before I was diagnosed, we went on a biiiiggggg hike and they were commenting on how great I was doing, considering I’m 9.  We went up and down lots of hills and I ran circles around my slow peeps!  They were talking about how I seemed much healthier then than I had a few years ago when I was, ahem, carrying a few more pounds.  A couple of weeks after that, I started having a little bit of a limp, but my pawrents couldn’t find anything wrong with my paw or see any swelling anywhere on my leg.  We went to the vet and she figured out where the sensitive part was – up by my shoulder, and said that I had probably sprained something.  She mentioned that there was a small chance it could be a tumor, but she didn’t think so, because even though the sensitivity was in the general area where a tumor might be likely, it didn’t seem to be exactly the right spot or something like that.  We went home with some pain meds and my pawrents were told to make me rest. HA!  They didn’t let me exercise very much, but the thing is, I LOVE food, and they couldn’t figure out a way to stop me from doing my happy food dance, jumping up and down and running in circles.  When I wasn’t better after a couple of weeks, they thought maybe it was because I wasn’t getting enough rest, so we went back to the doctor to check it out.

The vet poked at my leg again and then did some x-rays…then told us that I probably had cancer.  She talked to my pawrents for a few minutes about what to do next, but they were pretty much in a daze at that point.  Mom and I went outside to go to the bathroom, and while I was sniffing around finding the perfect spot, she started BAWLING.  Soooo  embarrassing!  I can’t imagine what the people walking by thought.  People are just crazy sometimes.

Later that day, we went to ANOTHER vet (I know!  2 in 1 day….ridiculous!) who looked at the pictures of my leg and confirmed what the first doctor had said (my mom started crying again.  sheesh).  She even brought in the surgeon to talk to us (are you keeping count?  now that’s 3 vets in 1 day!).  They wanted to take my leg the very next day!  My pawrents weren’t quite ready so we decided to wait until Wednesday.  They took me away and did MORE x-rays and stole some blood and put a big needle in my bladder and I was a GOOD GIRL!  Then I went back and laid down with my head in my mom’s lap while they talked to the vet even more.  My mom asked the vet if she could also look at the big lump on my neck while I was “under”, so the vet leaned over me to get a look at it.  Now, the thing you need to know is, I’m pretty protective of my mom!  No one is going to hurt her when I’m around.  And that lady had made my mom cry!  Plus, I was tired of being poked at, so I YEEELLLLLEEEDDD at that lady and she jumped back across the room.  HEHEHE  It was awesome!

Anyway, fast forward a few days and I went back to the vet, went to sleep, and when I woke up, my leg was gone!  Since then, I’ve been learning to get around on 3 legs, and I am doing a great job, if I do say so myself.  My pawrents are VERY proud of me.  Here I am playing a little fetch:

I plan on continuing to do fun things like that!  Hopefully I will keep up with posting here so that anyone who wants to follow an awesome Tripawd Warrior Princess can.

  1. Hi Holly! That was an awesome video! I can’t wait to see more. I’m glad you’re home and doing well. I’m sure you’re showing your parents how awesome Tripawds are! You’re in Oakland, right? There’s a lot of great Tripawds up in Nor Cal. Be sure to keep your eye on the forums. They get together quite often, and I’m sure they’d love to meet you!
Keep posting and let us all know how you’re doing!

  2. Welcome Holly, thanks for sharing your story! It sounds a lot like how Jerry started his three-legged adventures. He started limping after another epic hike!

Tell mom you will quickly consume your free storage space quota by uploading video files and that it’s much easier to embed movies right here in your blog by posting them to YouTube first. (You can just paste the view page URL on a aline by itself and it will automatically embed so readers can view it right in your post.)
